Overview
What are Starlink overage options?
Starlink overage options decide what happens when a Starlink Global Priority plan uses up its monthly data allowance. You can pay for extra data per GB, add data in top-up blocks, or opt out and continue at reduced speed with no extra charge.
From 1 June 2026, a new top-up model is available alongside the existing per-GB option. Current subscribers stay on per-GB unless they ask to switch. Plans and rates are on our Starlink Maritime plans page.
In short: Starlink Global Priority offers per-GB overage (the default, from $2.50 to $7.00 per GB by plan) and, from 1 June 2026, auto top-up in 25 GB or 250 GB blocks. Opting out gives free unlimited data at 1 Mbps down / 0.5 Mbps up until the 1st.

Monthly lock. Once you select a model, it stays in place for the rest of the current month and resets on the 1st. Top-up subscribers can still switch between 25 GB and 250 GB blocks during the month.

How much does Starlink overage cost?
On the per-GB model, each GB beyond your allowance is billed at your plan's overage rate: from $7.00 per GB on the 10 GB plan down to $2.50 per GB on plans of 1 TB and above.
If you regularly exceed your allowance, a larger plan or a top-up block may cost less. Ask our team to compare for your vessel.

What are the Starlink Global Priority overage options?
There are two models. Per-GB overage, the existing default, charges for each GB used beyond your monthly allowance. Top-up overage, new from 1 June 2026, adds data in fixed 25 GB or 250 GB blocks. With either model you can opt out and get free unlimited data at 1 Mbps down / 0.5 Mbps up for the rest of the month.
Do I need to do anything after 1 June 2026?
No. All existing subscribers remain on per-GB overage automatically and are not migrated. Nothing changes unless you request a switch.
How much does per-GB overage cost?
It depends on your plan: $7.00 per GB on the 10 GB plan, $5.00 on 50 GB, $3.50 on 100 GB, $3.00 on 300 GB, $2.80 on 500 GB and 600 GB, and $2.50 on plans of 1 TB and above. See Starlink Maritime plans.
How does auto top-up work?
Data is added automatically in recurring 25 GB or 250 GB blocks through the end of the month and billed accordingly. You can change the block size at any time by contacting us.
Does unused top-up data roll over?
No. Unused top-up data does not roll over to the next month.
What happens if I opt out of overage?
Once your allowance is used, you keep free unlimited data at 1 Mbps download and 0.5 Mbps upload for the rest of the month. Full speed returns when your data resets on the 1st.
Can I switch models in the middle of the month?
Your selected model stays in place for the rest of the current month and cannot be changed again until the 1st of the following month. Top-up subscribers can switch between 25 GB and 250 GB blocks at any time.
How are plan changes and cancellations billed?
Upgrades and downgrades take effect immediately and are prorated on a 30-day month. Mid-month activations are prorated, including the TAC fee. Cancellations and suspensions mid-month are not prorated: the full month is charged.
