Which satellite phone network has the best coverage?
Iridium covers the entire planet, including oceans and polar regions. Inmarsat covers most of the world except the poles. Thuraya covers Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Australia, but not the Americas.
Do I need an airtime plan?
Yes. Every satellite phone needs a SIM with airtime. We offer prepaid plans for occasional use and monthly postpaid plans for regular users, on Iridium, Inmarsat and Thuraya.
Can I use a satellite phone indoors?
Satellite phones need a clear view of the sky. For use inside a building, vehicle or vessel, a docking station with an external antenna, such as the Iridium 9575A Docking Station, lets you make calls from inside.
Can I rent a satellite phone instead of buying one?

Can a satellite phone send my location in an emergency?
Some models can. The Iridium Extreme 9575 has built-in GPS and a programmable SOS button that sends your location to an emergency contact or monitoring service.
Are satellite phones legal in every country?
No. A few countries restrict or ban satellite phones. Check the rules for your destination before you travel, or ask our team.
