Starlink Maritime typically offers higher speeds and lower latency with a smaller antenna. VSAT systems such as KVH remain a strong choice for fleets with established VSAT networks. Many commercial vessels combine a broadband link with an L-band backup.
Do I need a backup connection at sea?
For commercial and offshore operations, yes. An L-band service such as Iridium Certus uses a different network and frequency band, so it keeps voice and data running if your primary link is interrupted.
Does marine satellite internet work far offshore?
