CommBox Edge Core for leisure and commercial vessels

CommBox Edge Core simplifies modern multi-orbit, multi-channel connectivity on board with intuitive network and bandwidth management. Combine Starlink, LTE and VSAT in a single managed platform with unlimited WAN and LAN configurations.

Track data in real time per user, device or network, cover the vessel with a Wi-Fi 6 mesh, and manage everything from the CommBox Edge Cloud Portal. For the original CommBox Edge licenses, see CommBox Edge plans.

In short: CommBox Edge Core licenses cost $99 per month (Cloud) and $199 per month (Cloud Plus), with hardware sold separately. Both include unlimited WAN and LAN, a firewall, WAN failover and Wi-Fi 6 mesh networking.

CommBox Edge Secure Suite and high availability

The Secure Suite is an onboard cybersecurity solution built on Cisco Talos and SNORT that detects, prevents and logs threats in real time.

With high availability, two synchronized units run as primary and standby. If the primary goes down, the secondary takes over instantly with identical settings, fully cloud-managed.

What is CommBox Edge Core?

CommBox Edge Core is a network management gateway that unifies satellite, cellular, Wi-Fi and wired connections into one platform for vessels and remote sites. It has 6 Ethernet ports, Wi-Fi 6 AX6000 and supports Starlink, VSAT, OneWeb and 5G/LTE.

How much do CommBox Edge Core plans cost?

The Cloud license costs $99 per month and the Cloud Plus license $199 per month. Hardware is sold separately.

What is the difference between Cloud and Cloud Plus?

Cloud includes the full cloud portal, SD-WAN, failover, bonding, remote access, Wi-Fi controller and mesh, paywall and usage tracking. Cloud Plus adds configurable WAN quotas, a crew captive portal, SASE, Identity Access Management, the Secure Suite (Cisco Talos), fleet-level management, high availability and priority support.

How does it compare with the Starlink router?

The standard Starlink router supports 1 WAN, 1 LAN network and 1 SSID. CommBox Edge Core supports unlimited WAN, LAN networks and SSIDs, and adds a firewall, failover, SD-WAN, usage tracking and cloud management.

What is high availability?

Two synchronized CommBox Edge Core units run as primary and standby. If the primary fails, the secondary takes over instantly with identical settings, with no manual intervention. High availability is part of Cloud Plus.

Can I build a Wi-Fi mesh on board?

Yes. Several Core units can form an onboard Wi-Fi mesh. Mesh units require a primary CommBox Edge Core with a Cloud or Cloud Plus license to act as AP controller.

Who is CommBox Edge Core for?
