Overview
What is Starlink satellite internet?
Starlink is a satellite internet service that uses a constellation of satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO), about 550 km above the Earth. Because the satellites are far closer than geostationary satellites at 35,786 km, Starlink delivers broadband speeds with low latency for video calls, VoIP, cloud apps and streaming.
Global Satellite supplies Starlink kits, activates Starlink plans and supports customers on land and at sea: remote offices and job sites, yachts and fishing fleets, merchant vessels, emergency teams and short-term projects.
In short: Starlink through Global Satellite starts at $150 per month (PAYG), $199 per month on land (Local Priority) and $300 per month at sea (Global Priority). Merchant vessels can get unlimited data from $3,070 per month, and rental kits start at $210 per week.

Starlink vs GEO VSAT vs Iridium Certus
How low Earth orbit broadband compares with traditional satellite links.
| Feature | Starlink (LEO) | GEO VSAT | Iridium Certus (LEO) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Orbit altitude | About 550 km | 35,786 km | About 780 km |
| Latency | Low, video-call ready | High (around 600 ms round trip) | Low to moderate |
| Bandwidth | Broadband, up to 220 Mbps (Flat High Performance) | Plan and beam dependent | Narrowband, up to 704 kbps (Certus 700) |
| Antenna | Flat, self-pointing phased array | Stabilized dome | Compact L-band terminal |
| Best role | Primary high-speed link | Legacy or contracted primary link | Weather-resilient backup and safety |
Many vessels pair Starlink with an L-band service such as Iridium Certus for resilient, always-on communications.
